{Bookish Thoughts} Re-reads: Do your ratings ever change?

Have u ever loved a book a lot and then when you re-read it a couple years down the road – not love it as much as you used to? That’s how I recently felt about Shatter Me. I was obsessed with this book a couple years ago, but now, not so much.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love Shatter Me. I especially still love the tragic bad boy Warner. I think that it’s just been a few years and a few spectacular books since I last read Shatter Me and therefore my expectations have risen.

I still plan on reading the books that follow Shatter Me, so fingers crossed that my original fiery love for the series returns.

Can you think of any book that you re-read that wasn’t as amazing the second time around? Or perhaps, a book that you re-read that ended up being more spectacular than you originally thought it was?

  1. If it helps, I loved the subsequent books in that series even MORE than Shatter Me? So maybe that will be the case for you too! I am actually scared to reread books for this very reason- what if I DON'T love them anymore? That would be so sad. The only books I have reread a lot is The Hunger Games series, and I love them just as much, if not more every time, so that is good.

  2. I definitely do this – both ways. Sometimes after reading a book I'm still kind of high on all the feels and rate it high. And after a while I realize I didn't really *love* it and it's more like a 3.5 star book instead of a 4 or 4.5. But the opposite also hold true. Sometimes the more time passes the more I discover I love the book. It just stays with me and I love it even more. (As for Shatter Me I thought books 2 and 3 were even better than the first!)

  3. I haven't reread a book in awhile, but my ratings change constantly in my head. I remember reading Draw the Line last year and really enjoying it, but now I'm like, "Did I really give that 4.5 stars? I don't even know if I liked it that much." I guess feelings change with time…
